Within their limitations, and for their price these are quite good. I've had and used a set of these for a long time, and they have more than paid for themselves many times over. Being this small, they easily fit in a pocket for carrying on the job and doing rough touchups to some edged tools. I say rough, because the range of stated grits on mine are 180, 260, and 360, so take their "coarse, fine and extra fine" labeling with a large helping of salt. [These are not fine enough to be used for the final edging of a truly sharp knife, but for doing the heavy removal required to get down past a deep nick before doing that, they would be fine.]
As with most any diamond coated product, under the right conditions, such as heavy pressure or bending, the diamond coating and whatever it's actually being held onto the steel with on these can flake off over time. I've occasionally abused mine in this way, which is why I'm getting more. Don't be too surprised if they separate from the backing plastic plate-they can be glued back on with contact cement, or something similar, when that happens. I recommend using light pressure and having a solid backup support for the flexible plastic they are mounted on whenever possible to help extend their usable life. | |
